Organic/Bio Earlier this year, Vinous called Mathieu Lapierre "unofficially the coolest dude in Beaujolais" and this is, arguably, one of the coolest dude wines of the region, too. His dad, Marcel, virtually invented modern quality Beaujolais, farming organically, sorting carefully, fermenting with native yeast, using old Burgundy barrels and making two cuvees of this wine - one with no sulfur at all and one with just a touch for stability. This is the low-sulfur cuvee and the description from Kermit's web site is hard to beat: "The newly arrived 2022 is a pleasure bomb, chock-full of silky ripe fruit, earthy tones, and a stimulating juicy energy. Kermit wrote of Marcel’s 1990 Morgon, 'It is one of the most delicious young reds we have ever sold.' From a comparable vintage, this latest release makes me feel the same."
For You If: You love the blend of joyful fruit and velvet texture of a great Morgon; you want to dip your toes in the "natural wine" pool without worrying that the bottle will taste like skunk spray.
Not For You If: I'm tempted to say, "You don't like wine," but that's not fair - if you're after the flavors of Cabernet or Pinot Noir or overt oak influence, then this doesn't do that.
