Corine Vyd (called Olenik through 2018) sits just down the hill from Lia’s and right beyond the boundary Ribbon Ridge in the Chehalem Mountain AVA. It's in the middle of a south-facing hillside with this block near the bottom. As Jim writes, "At some point in the distant geological past the upper hillside on which this vineyard sites experienced a violent landslide, cascading untold tons of rocks down the slope. By whatever quirk of topography this particular block was the end recipient of the largest portion of the basalt landslide. It is strewn, both on the surface and deep into the soil, with brick sized rocks. This makes for a particularly troublesome walk through the vines (hence the name)! However, the impacts are beyond sprained ankles, scuffed knees and wounded pride. The rocks create a difficult growing environment."
"The 2021 Pinot Noir Corrine Vineyard Anklebreaker Block pours a deep ruby-red and opens to rich notes of lavender, wild black raspberry preserve, and tons of dry, rocky earth. Full-bodied and gravelly in texture, it fills the palate, but it’s weightless and has a more grounded sensibility, with ripe tannins that expand across the palate. It’s going to benefit from another couple years in bottle before drinking over the following 15 years."
