Organic/Bio Without question, Planeta is the most important winery in Sicily and has done more than anyone to drive up quality and awareness of good Sicilian wine around the world. Etna is just a small part of what they do but, as with everything else here, it’s done very, very, well. This blends fruit from contradas Feudo di Mezzo and Pietramarina that’s aged in a mixture of steel and large oak. As Vinous describes it in their 91 point review, “The 2022 Etna Rosso lifts up with an airy array of rosy florals, lavender and exotic spice. It opens with a pretty inner sweetness and soft textures as wild strawberries and blueberries swirl throughout. This tapers off with a tinge of crunchy minerality and a violet resonance, revealing a tart blackberry tone toward the close.”
For You If: You’re looking for a softer Etna red that relies more on crunchy mineral than firm tannin for structure.
Not For You If: You’re after something with lots of tannic pull or savory accents – this is built more on the fruit and minerality.
