Intense. That’s the very first word that comes to mind when tasting this bone dry, multi-layered, Austrian Riesling. Like the best dry Rieslings from Australia’s Clare and Eden Valleys and Germany’s Trocken bottlings, Steinhaus is all about minerality, freshness, and zest. The intense (there’s that word again) acidity would be too much if it weren’t perfectly balanced by the body and texture of Riesling grapes reaching stunning ripeness at 13.5% alcohol. A joy to sip and marvel at now and for decades to come and a great match with shellfish, subtle fish preparations, lemon-dressed salads, and cheese. Just magnificent and an amazing value for the quality.
For You If: You love really dry, racy, Riesling with enought body and texture to stay balanced and work well with food; you're having sushi and want something that will love fresh fish, tangy rice and a dab of ginger.
Not For You If: You like your Riesling off-dry or mellow - this is intense.
"Delicate nose of red apple and white peach with a hint of licorice. Quite sleek in spite of the good ripeness with an elegant acidity that keeps this straight and fresh through the long wet stone finish."
