Organic/Bio Here’s a beautiful expression of Barolo from the important commune of Serralunga d’Alba that is already deliciously expressive with a bit of air and will keep on improving for 15 years. Even this young, the aromatics of crushed raspberry and ripe strawberry, rose petal and wild herb are compelling. In your mouth, the ripe fruit flavors take center stage with red floral and herb flavors underneath. The tannins are super-fine, but more than substantial enough to carry this elegant, pure, Barolo through 2045 if you want to wait. And if you don’t want to wait, just splash the bottle into a decanter or glass pitcher and wait an hour or so – the magic unfolds nicely!
The fruit here is from two different organic vineyards, both along the eastern slope of the long crest of Serralunga d’Alba where conditions favor full, gentle, ripening. After harvest by hand and destemming, the wine ferments on the skins for a fairly short 10 days followed by another 10 days of soaking on the skins, extracting loads of flavor while keeping tannins under control. Aging 24 months in traditional, large, Slavonian oak casks helps soften the tannins without adding oak flavors. The result is a beautiful Barolo built to go the distance – and delight tonight!
For You If: You’re looking for authentic, perfumed, Barolo with plenty of fruit that’s rewarding to enjoy right now and able to keep improving for 20 years; you enjoy a more red-fruited – vs black fruit – Barolo character.
Not For You If: You’re after the strong tannins and dark black fruit that many Barolos deliver – this has plenty of power, but the velvet glove is firmly encasing the iron fist at this point.
"This pure version boasts cherry, raspberry, rose and menthol aromas and flavors. Supple in texture, this is tightly wound and bursting with vibrant acidity. Offers a great example of elegance married to intensity, delivering balance and a long, complex aftertaste."
