Nicola Argamante was born in Tuscany, grew up in Piemonte, and was a well respected consulting winemaker there for years before he and his wife, Loredana, founded their own winery. Over 30 acres of vines, they make around 7,000 cases per year that are both classically terroir-anchored and very delicious to drink. This is their 450 case per year top wine from the excellent Bussia Cru, done in 225 and 500l French oak. It’s a dramatic Barolo, bold and full of dark fruit, spice, violets and rose petal and a firm grip that makes your mouth water, not dry out. It will get better for 15-20 years, but it’s pretty darn delicious right now with rich, flavorful, food.
For You If: You love darker, richer, more fruit-filled, Barolo that still showcases classic “tar and roses” character and keeps the oak flavors way, way, in the background.
Not For You If: You’re looking for sharper, more austere, Barolo or lots of red fruit – this is rich and round and the fruit character is definitely more black than red.
