From one of the Central Coast’s very first Pinot Noir vineyards, Mission Ranch in the Salinas Valley planted in 1961. Fifty-five years later, mature vines in a great vintage gave a crop of beautifully ripe Pinot Noir loaded with aroma, fruit and flavor but also impeccably balanced by juicy acids and silky smooth tannins. A cool fermentation of fully destemmed fruit locked in the glorious fresh aromas and flavors while 10 months in very high-end Francois Freres barriques (all neutral, so no oaky flavor) polished the wine to fantastic smoothness.
As Antonio Galloni says in the 90 point Vinous review, "The 2022 Pinot Noir Opening Act, from a site in Monterey, is bright, aromatic and effusive. Crushed flowers, spice, mint and hard candy are nicely laced together in this mid-weight, effusive offering. This is nicely done."
For You If: You enjoy the ripe fruit aromas and flavors of California Pinot Noir with a nice dose of freshness and an easy, fruit-filled, finish.
Not For You If: You're after something really heavy or really light - this hangs out in the middle of weight but definitely on the high-end of quality.
