Lower ABV When you think of Austrian whites, you probably don’t think of Styria and almost certainly don’t have Sauvignon Blanc come to mind. But that’s what Styria does really well, giving wines with generous amounts of citrus and stone fruit and attractive dash of fresh and dried herb…with just a touch more European restraint than those wild guys of New Zealand go for. Crisp, dry, and easy to love with or without food at just 12.5%.
For You If: You’re after a NZ-style Sauvignon that dials back the fruit-intensity and cut grass just a bit; you want Sauvignon that doesn’t scream “grapefruit”; “mouthtingling” sounds fun to you.
Not For You If: You don’t like Sauvignon – because this is very much that; you’re looking for either the almost over the top flamboyance of NZ or the mineral restraint of Sancerre (this is in between); you don’t want any grass/herb flavors at all.
