The Triosi family plays an important role in the return of Campania wines to global fame, including bottling the first varietal Fiano way back in 1984 (ok – not so way back, actually). Their Aglianico from just outside Taurasi is delicious, with plenty of ripe cherry/berry fruit to complement classic notes of earth, black olive and leather. Finishes with firm grip and a touch of saltiness. A great match for rich stews and simple salami and cheese.
For You If: Certainly if you like Aglianico and definitely if you’d like to explore the grape sometimes called “the Barolo of the South;” you enjoy a wine that grips nice and firm on the finish before releasing and the fruit comes back up.
Not For You If: You’re after “smooth” – this has lots of firm, fine, tannin and jolt of juicy acidity, too; you don’t like anything earthy in your wine – this shows just a touch.
