The importer Boutinot makes a lot of their own wines, including this one from old-vine Grenache discovered growing down south between Corbieres and the Sea. Done all in steel, it’s dark, gutsy, powerful and a bit wild, with deep black raspberry fruit, a whiff of garrigue, and tannins I’d call “interactive” because you’ll feel them climb up your gums and then melt away. Grenache for steak and chops and very good times.
For You If: You’re looking to feel the power – you want to viscerally experience a big mouthful of big wine; you like big fruit in a dry wine; you just want a great match for chops and stews.
Not For You If: You’re after “smooth,” because while this isn’t hard or tough, it’s definitely got logs of back-end texture; a “fresh” or “light” red is what you’re looking for today; you prefer “savory” to “fruit-filled” reds.
