Easy drinking, check. Sophisticated, check. Wines that hold to the French dogma of site-specific, nuanced wines, check. 80% Pinot Gris and 20% Pinot Blanc, the wines expressive fruit and subtle minerality is a testament to the name “climat”, or good place in French. As said by Jim Clendenen, winemaker at Au Bon Climat, “The crisp energy of the wine is supplied by the Pinot Gris, and the minerality and depth are delivered by the Pinot Blanc”. A generous amount of green apple, pear, and hints of apricot take center stage with subtle notes of minerality and citrus lemon. There is a creamy texture in its core and a soft present tannin that adds a step of complexity and structure to the wine. A wonderful solo sipper or would be great with fish, roasted chicken, or even Thai!
For You If: You know Chardonnay is not your thing but you do like a white wine with texture and just a touch of creaminess but finishes with uplifting minerality; you need an excellent pairing for something like pan seared halibut or to go with the Thai food you’ve just picked up for dinner!
Not For You If: If you prefer a white wine with butter and oak like most California Chardonnay’s or white grapefruit, grass and tropical fruits like New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
