Lower ABV Winemaker Erin Jordan says this is “akin to the pinot gris imported from Alsace — this is a spiced, textured, and aromatically-driven wine.” The second part I buy, not the first because this is dry and very salty. This won’t mean anything to most, but it’s as if he grew his Pinot Gris in the alpine vineyards of France’s Savoie. Leesy, complex, a bit savory/brothy, lots of wild mountain her, dusty/grippy at the end with just enough white citrus/stone fruit to hold the whole thing together. It’s pretty marvelous stuff if you’re having river fish in wine sauce or with lemon, lentils with herbs and – especially – alpine cheese dishes like fondue or raclette.
For You If: Fruit flavors are less important (even optional) in your herby, salty, zippy, white wines; you love Fendant from Switzerland and Jacquaire from Savoie and want to branch out a bit.
Not For You If: You’re hoping for a typical Pinot Gris/Grigio experience!
