Once again a blend of Merlot and Cabernet, all aged in oak, from the tiny Saint Emilion “satellite” Saint-Georges. Separated from it’s more famous neighbor but just a small stream, Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion has the same clay/limestone soils and similar altitudes perfect for ripening plump, rich, Merlot and spicy, aromatic, Cabernet Franc. Generous aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, plum, dark chocolate, sweet spice and a touch of "lead pencil" greet you from first pour. With air, a touch of forest floor joins the party and the chocolate note deepens, but fine tannins and a vibrant mineral streak keep things fresh from first sip to last. It’s already delicious with classic Bordeaux matches like roasted beef and herby spring lamb and will gain even more complexity and richness over the next 10+ years. Terrific wine and an excellent value.
"From a village north of Saint-Émilion, this chocolate- and black-fruit flavored wine is young, dense and firm with tannins. A succulent edge promises well for the future of this powerful blend with its 86% Merlot."
