Organic/Bio Lower ABV The most common reason today for not drinking white Bordeaux is just not knowing what the heck it is. This lovely, no oak, example will fix that. From Graves, south of the city of Bordeaux, and the best white wine territory in the region. It’s mostly Semillon – also not well-known – with splashes of Sauvignon (blanc and gris) and Muscadelle. Picked full of flavor and at just 12.5% alcohol, the different grapes and lots ferment in steel and age for six months on the lees (spent yeast cells) to pick up a bit of texture. Ripe quince, stone fruit, lemon/lime fruit aromas and flavors are perfectly balanced by crisp acids and a bit of dusty gravel minerality. The complexity, class and deliciousness value is far beyond the modest price point. Ready right now with seafood, salads and other lighter dishes and for solo sipping through 2026 or so. Really good.
For You If: You enjoy Sauvignon from Sancerre or New Zealand but want something just a touch softer and less overwhelmingly fruity; you find the combination of intense mouthfeel and low alcohol captivating; you’re just looking for good white wine most anyone will enjoy.
Not For You If: You’re after the spice/vanilla/toast flavors oak aging imparts; you’re after a wine that feels/tastes “important” vs just yummy; you really don’t want any citrus notes.
