The Lacoste family has owned La Clotte-Cazalis since the 1700s and just took the vines back from a long-term lease in 2001. Their 5HA of 95% Semillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc average 50 years old and develop plenty of magical botrytis. This is right in its drinking window now, showing both fresh and carmalized apricot fruit, exotic floral and honey, and a bit of toasted nut flavors with a sweet finish cleaned up by a dash of tart apricot juice. Huge yum.
For You If: You just want to enjoy a lovely Sauternes without paying a fortune or waiting for years; you like dessert wine that’s plenty sweet in the middle and then tangy at the end; you’re looking for a match for any stone fruit tart.
Not For You If: You just don’t like Sauternes, I guess? Otherwise I really can’t figure out who wouldn’t be thrilled to pop open and drink a half-bottle of this!
