Kermit Lyncy has always had a nose for wines that, rather than “important,” are simply delicious expressions of time, place and grape. And that’s why he brings us the Chardonnays of Henri Perrusset. It’s 100% Chardonnay grown in small plots around the Macon village of Farges, not far from Chardonnay, the hamlet that gives its name to Burgundy’s great white grape.
Henri’s low yields and gentle farming bring him a nice crop of ripe but still fresh and juicy Chardonnay. To lock in that character, he fermented this wine in cool stainless steel tanks and then let it rest on the lees for 8 months to build a little complexity and creaminess of texture. It’s loaded with fresh peach, ripe pear, and yellow apple fruit with a broad, round, texture and a hint of chalky mineral and toasted hazelnut on the open, smooth, finish. A great all-purpose, no-oak, Chardonnay for New World and Old World fans alike.
For You If: You enjoy the classic white Burgundy aromas and flavors of wines from the Macon and enjoy affordable prices just as much; you're looking for a white that will please a crowd and shine with everthing from shellfish to salads and roasted birds.
Not For You If: You're after the creamier texture and smoky spice that comes from aging in oak - this is done all in steel so the natural richness of Macon Chardonnay is matched by a fine mineral streak.
