Organic/Bio Crest the top of the warm and sunny Casot hill and you find yourself at the top of Marcarini. With it's northeast aspect, Marcarini gets loads of morning sun but then less of the late afternoon heat. From old vines - and most of Nada's were planted in the 1970s - the combination of intensity and freshness is pretty captivating. All of Nebbiolo's classic markers are here - cherry/strawberry fruit, crushed rose petals, a hint of earthy truffle - with the fruit more dominant now and the floral/earthy tones set to come up as the wine ages. Firm and very fine.
For You If: You're after everything we love about Barbaresco Nebbiolo in a beautifully fresh and elegant package; you want a bit more grippy feeling finish than warmer site Barbaresco gives.
Not For You If: You're after "smooth" - this has solid Nebbiolo acids and lots of rich, ripe, grainy tannin.
"This is a classic wine that opens with pretty and polished aromas of fresh cherries, rose, warmed spices and subtle earth notes. The mouthfilling palate is expressive with generous raspberry and other wild red fruit flavors supported by elegant tannins and a defined minerality with a bright and vivid finish."
