Deliciously complex, marrying the intense fruit and concentration you’d expect from 115 year-old vines with balancing earthy/herbal notes. As Wine Enthusiast says in their 94 point rave, “Aromas of amaro-like myrtle and eucalyptus leaf meet with stewed strawberry and raspberry on the nose. The palate is loaded with acid, chalky in tannins, and spicy in cracked white pepper, with a core of pomegranate and black raspberry fruit.”
For You If: You enjoy the earthy spice of whole cluster Pinot Noir and want to try it with Grenache’s fleshy raspberry fruit; you enjoy Grenache flavors and textures but not the high alcohols so often found in Spain and the Rhone – this is nicely rich at 13.5%.
Not For You If: You’re after the super-ripe fruit and heady alcohol of Chateauneuf du Pape – this has loads of fruit and flavor but in a more balanced, savory, style.
"This young bottling will have a long cellar life, thanks perhaps to the old-vine attributes. Aromas of amaro-like myrtle and eucalyptus leaf meet with stewed strawberry and raspberry on the nose. The palate is loaded with acid, chalky in tannins, and spicy in cracked white pepper, with a core of pomegranate and black raspberry fruit. Drink the wine now through 2032."
