Grenache that bursts into your party, slaps you on the back and asks, “What’s on the barbie, mate?” A big wine from 70-90 year-old vines with whole bunches tossed into the fermenter and the young wine aged 10 months in small barrels (15% new). Gushing dark raspberry fruit with a bit of blood orange and dash of while herb garrigue. Remarkably crisp and focused for such a big wine although it gets broader with air. Try with cumin-rubbed lamb chops, tagine, pulled pork or anything full of big flavors.
For You If: You want the size and volume of Zinfandel with more non-fruit complexity and a crisp, refreshing, finish; you’re after bigger, riper, red fruit than you find in most Cotes du Rhone reds; you like to cook with cumin – which causes the flavors in this wine to EXPLODE!
Not For You If: You’re looking for subtlety and finesse – this is more about in-your-face “yum” and fruit; you either want a lot of earthy notes or none at all – this has just a touch.
