A nicely chunky, gutsy, Rioja loaded with black fruit and finishing fine and firm with the oak well integrated into the fruit. As Vinous says in the 93 point review, “The fruit-forward aromas showcase cherry and blackberry notes in a reductive profile, complemented by hints of blood and earthy tones. Dry, creamy and overwhelming, the fine, reactive tannins contribute texture to the lasting fruity finish.”
For You If: You’re looking for a great wine to pair with lamb or any savory dish with plenty of herbs and garlic; you’re in the mood for Rioja character with the wood clearly and accent, not the main star.
Not For You If: You’re after “traditional” Rioja, meaning wine where the fruit has pulled back and left the acidity and oak in front – this has a deep fruit component with the wood and structure behind.
