Organic/Bio Jerome Billard makes Burgundy that he loves to drink – and can drink sooner rather than just later. This is a classic in his style. There’s plenty of Pommard structure here, with vivid acidity and firm, decisive, tannins. And that structure is balanced by layered red cherry and raspberry fruit enlivened by a twist of citrus peel and dusting of fresh ground coffee bean at the end. Blood/iron and roasted meat savory notes come up with air. A fine, savory, red Burgundy for grilled/roasted meats and hearty grain & mushroom dishes now and getting more complex and richer with 5-10 years in cellar. Bravo.
For You If: You’re after the satisfying structure and grip of Pommard in a balanced, open, format ready to enjoy tonight.
Not For You If: You’re looking for really earthy or really smooth Pinot Noir – this has earthy touches but leans towards the fruit now and the grip, while pleasant and ripe, is definitely there.
