From arguably the finest red wine site in Chassagne and, unusually, from above the village where most 1er Cru sites feature Chardonnay instead of Pinot. Here the flatter terrain and walls of the clos have kept enough clay for Pinot to develop to full ripeness while retaining a limestone minerality and finesse not often seen in Chassagne. Elegant black and red cherry fruit, smoke, spice and fresh earth aromas and flavors supported by very fine, almost powdery, tannins. Opens nicely with a decant and drinking well for 5-12 years.
For You If: You like the silky pure feel of Chambolle-Musigny but are after darker fruit and a much lower price.
Not For You If: You want Gevrey's power and iron ore minerality or Pommard's firm, muscular, grip - this is silky, pure and elegant.
