Organic/Bio Just a really good, all-purpose, house red here with an easy-access screwtop closure and easy on the wallet savings price. The quality here is unsurprising, because the Jaume family consistently puts their name on wines of outstanding quality at every price point. Here organically grown Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault are destemmed, fermented with native yeasts, and allowed to come together in steel and concrete tank.
It delivers rich red raspberry and black cherry fruit with hints of licorice and black olive. There’s a peppery feel to the flavors – a bit of a bite – mid-palate that grows and mingles with hints of wild herb and close to gushing berry/cherry fruit. A gentle squeeze of tannin and ping of fresh red berry acids at the end makes your mouth water a bit and keeps the flavors going through your next bite of food or sip from the glass.
For You If: You just want a really good glass of red wine without even having to open the drawer where you keep the corkscrew; you love the fleshy feel and black olive/wild herb/black pepper flavors the French call garigue; you like paying less than anyone else in the USA for a terrific House Red.
Not For You If: You’re after the special-occasion richness and power of Chateauneuf du Pape; you want to taste oak influence – no wood here; you’re looking for a wine to cellar – this is ready now and next year.
