Although it comes to the US from Italy (via Austria and Ohio - it's a long story), Zinfandel is very much America's grape. And this robust wine starts with very good grapes indeed, all grown by the unofficial first farming family of Paso Robles, the Dusi family. Picked ripe and aged in neutral barrel and concrete, it captures Zinfandel's bold flavors and generous mouthfeel to a T.
It's unmistakably zinny on the nose, with big aromas of brambly blackberry jam jumping out of the glass. Then the surprising freshness and lightly grainy tannins propel big flavors of black raspberry, bramble, spice and more through a very long, sustained, finish. Highly drinkable and utterly delicious Zin solo and with boldly flavored foods.
For You If: You like Zinfandel - this couldn't be anything else from the dark berry fruit to fleshy mouthfeel to easygoing, BBQ-ready, finish.
Not For You If: You're looking for subtlety or grace - this is a bit in-your-face with flavor and intensity
