Very quietly, Two Birds One Stone Rouge has been building an impressive track-record as a terrific all-purpose value red. Selling for $11-$14, vintages 2016-2020 all earned respectable 87-89 point ratings from Wine Enthusiast and “Best Buy” awards every year. But “impressive” turns into “spectacular” with vintage 2022! A whopping 93 point rave to be released shortly, a pretty much guaranteed place on the WE Top 100 list, and still just $14 every day.
This smells great with big aromas of juicy plum, ripe blueberry, crushed violets and hot slate that jump from the glass. It feels great, too, with a round, fleshy, feel that has plenty of gutsy depth and weight perfectly balanced by chewy tannins and a juicy feel. The purple and black fruit flavors are ripe and rich, too, with accents of wild herb, sweet spices, and more slate-like minerality.
"Elegant floral and vanilla aromas open this red wine. On the palate, juicy strawberry, cranberry and pomegranate flavors meet baking spice and dried herbs. Nicely structured, with supple tannins and uplifting acidity."
